TO and OVO by Grazyna Gras Nowacka
18.05.2023 / hour 19:00 / Studio Korczak. Poznan, 36 Glogowska St.
Between mystery and banality
The exhibition TO and OVO by Grazyna Grasa Nowacka was created on the basis of photographic images, but it goes far beyond the primary medium, becoming an interspecies, interdisciplinary realization, drawing also from painting, film, performance. There is no lack of installation inscribed in the site-specific convention.
The visual side of the project juxtaposes the mysterious with the banal, the fiesta with the everyday. It offers a complexity of contexts, a thicket of appearances, confusing tropes and non-obviousness that confront the viewer with open questions. The artist reaches into the arsenal of already-trademarked concepts to take a fresh look at them, filtering them through a surprisingly analytical web of associations.
The reception of her art is sometimes multi-sensory, and the simultaneity of artistic facts is a particularly characteristic feature for her. However, paradoxically with all this, the author uses condensed, elliptical thinking.
And in this vein, she herself briefly says of the exhibition: "it's a nostalgic-catastrophic-ecological-symbolic-survival story".
You are welcome.
