Poznan Photo Award - submissions until 4.09.2023

Poznan Photo Award - Press release

Until September 4, the call for entries for the 2023 Poznan Photo Award is open. This is the first edition of a new nationwide annual press and documentary photography contest. Adult photographers from all over the country are invited to participate. PNF 2023 consists of two competition categories: a Poznan-based and a nationwide one.

1. In the Poznań category, the following will be evaluated at most 30-photo sets of event photos from Poznan and the Poznan agglomeration taken after 2005. The organizers are waiting for stories that are a photographic synthesis of the contemporary times of the capital of Greater Poland.

2. In the second category - nationwide - will be evaluated at most 30-photo photo-essays, photo-reportages or photo-documentaries, which in the theme or attitude of the photographer will be "tender narratives" and which were created contemporaneously (after 2005) in Poland.

Only one week left to submit entries for the contest. On September 27, a professional jury, composed of prominent representatives of the photographic and artistic community: photographers, curators, visual artists - will select the best works. The chairman of the first edition will be a Poznan-born writer, reporter and photographer -. Filip Springer.

Winners in both categories can expect financial prizes of 10,000 zlotys, as well as publication of their works in the form of a photobook. There are also financial prizes for honorable mention works. The prize-winning and honorable mention sets will be shown at the competition exhibition, which will open in March 2024, during the PNF 2023 final gala.

The Poznan Photography Award has the ambition to become one of the most important photography competitions in Poland, as well as a new Poznan-based collection documenting everyday life, social and economic changes in Poland. It is a response to the development of reporter and documentary photography, the growing number of socially sensitive photographers, creatively describing the present day with their pictures.

I expect that the best works in the first edition will be the answer to how complicated world we live in - Says PNF 2023 jury chairman Filip Springer. - I think we will see attempts at non-standard approaches in photographic storytelling structure. I would like to see new ideas for telling a multi-photo story. This is the first contest of its kind in Poland, where photographers get a chance to show works with a large cross-section of time - the range since 2005 gives great possibilities in terms of topics. As for the Poznan part of the contest, I am very curious to see how the authors will tell this contemporary story. On the one hand, Poznań has changed a lot and the city has its own story of success, on the other - not everyone has managed to get on the "success" train. It remains to be seen to what extent these different perspectives will be represented in the photo sets.

Filip Springer, chairman of the jury
