Paulina Pior - about difficult relationships

Sometimes it is the case that too high expectations from a partner, a partner, lead to difficulties in a relationship, which may even end in the breakup of that relationship. It's hard to find a cure for this evil, which is why Paulina doesn't prescribe the cure for us. She does not cure. She is more concerned with observing the "sick" by photographing them in various situations, creating a certain ambiguous "film" narrative.

She wrote about her project as follows:

I am sending the photos that are part of the "Expectations" project. This project is an exploration of the future of relationships based on observations of one's own behavior and that of those around them. People do not talk to each other freely. The idealized perception of interpersonal relationships is deeply rooted in mass culture, glorifying lifelong friendships and love to the grave. In contrast, it is very rare for movies and cartoons to show how people will solve problems in relationships. I wanted to go beyond the current perception and created a project that, in my interpretation, deals with anxiety in relationships, resulting from excessive expectations, and its destructive impact on them. The series of photos tells the story of the phases and course of relationships, as well as the changes and transfers that are worth reconciling with the necessary elements of human life. During production, I deliberately avoided creating an atmosphere of connection.

Paulina Pior (b. 1995) - student of the Cinematography Department at the National Film, Television and Theater School in Lodz. She is interested in inter-pictorial and inter-textual relationships, hence in her work she combines photography and painting. Her strategy is based on association games and reinterpretation of motifs established in our visual culture. She places characteristic motifs, recognizable by the mass viewer, in a new context, thus pulling them out of well-established association structures. The artist forces viewers to confront what seemed already solidified in contemporary visual culture. Her greatest inspiration, however, is the world of emotions: the observation of human behavior in a sociological and psychological context. Her works have been presented at events such as Kmag Artspot and FotoArtFestival, among others. The works were also presented at a group exhibition at the Contemporary Art Center in Toruń and during individual exhibitions at the Ogrodowa 8 Gallery in Lodz, at Gallery Katarzyna Napiórkowska in Brussels and at Gallery A of the Starogard Cultural Center.
