Overlooked Horizons

Ewa Doroszenko and Jacek Doroszenko are a duo of intermedia artists from Warsaw, exploring the relationship between sound, image and landscape. Jacek Doroszenko is a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow, while Ewa Doroszenko earned her doctorate in fine arts at the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Torun. Since 2014, Ewa and Jacek Doroszenko have been creating unique scores in the form of video works, graphic and photographic installations as part of their international artist residencies. The resulting works have been presented by the artists at numerous exhibitions, including the Witold Lutoslawski National Forum for Music in Wroclaw, the Polish Institute in Düsseldorf, Cidade das Artes in Rio de Janeiro, Goldcorp Centre for the Arts in Vancouver, Fait Gallery in Brno, Casoria Contemporary Art Museum in Naples, Wroclaw Contemporary Museum, FIESP Cultural Center - Ruth Cardoso in Sao Paulo. The audiovisual exhibition "Overlooked Horizons" presents recent works by the Doroshenko duo exploring the relationship between the observer and the natural landscape. The large-format photographic prints, sound installations and video works presented in the exhibition are based on the artists' insights from numerous real and virtual journeys. Just as in the late 18th century people traveled in search of the "genius loci" of places, sights and moods that transported them to another time and allowed them to distance themselves from everyday life, today the Doroshenko duo discovers landscapes of unique qualities through artistic journeys online and offline. The artists' works have been created as part of international Artist-in-Residence programs, including at Kunstnarhuset Messen Ålvik (Norway), The Island Resignified Lefkada (Greece), AAVC Hangar Barcelona (Spain) and Pragovka Gallery (Czech Republic).
