Bartłomiej Bodzek: Maciek - a person with quadriplegic cerebral palsy - has long dreamed of climbing high mountain peaks. In 2020, together with the scouts of the 36th Red Beret Scout Troop, he climbed Tarnica in a makeshift carrier made from a hiking backpack. This initiative started a snowball effect, resulting in the formation of the Sherpas of Hope team. This is a group of volunteers fulfilling the mountain dreams of people with disabilities. These individuals, we call them Treasures. Fourteen people took part in the first official edition of Sherpas of Hope (2021). Treasures. In the second (2022) - more than 70. The third edition is planned for September 2023 and will involve more than 130 Treasures (together with parents/guardians Treasures and Sherpas - less than 500 people).
In June 2023, as part of a training trip for Sherpas - together with Treasures Frank and Maciek (where it all started) we conquered Giewont.
Marzena Wystrach: The course for Beskydy guides lasts about 1.5 years and is a combination of bushcraft and the art of guiding. Participation requires organizing one's life around the course, which consists of weekly lectures, numerous exams and frequent, and often long, training trips to the mountains. Difficult conditions, sleep deprivation, heavy backpacks, marching day and night, regardless of weather conditions, extreme physical and mental fatigue, using only paper maps and a compass, operating under stress - these are the essence of these trips. This makes 15 of the more than 70 people starting the course (the course is ongoing) to date. The most important element of it, however, is the strength of the group and the understanding that without working together, the course is virtually impossible to pass. Photographs were taken from October 2022 to June 2023 in various Beskydy ranges.
Volodymyr Gryniuk: The job of a porter is one of the most demanding and dangerous in the world. Every year, thousands of mountaineers and trekkers from around the world visit the Karakorum range in Pakistan to climb or simply see one of the highest peaks on earth. But what many don't realize is that behind each expedition are unseen heroes, the Pakistani altitude porters who carry the equipment and supplies necessary for climbers to achieve their goals. Despite their primary roles, these porters are often overlooked and underestimated. While Nepalese porters receive much attention and recognition, Pakistani porters remain in the shadows. This documentary photography project aims to shed light on the incredible work and sacrifice of these underappreciated heroes.
- Category Mountain Community and Tradition - Photos depicting a wide range of mountain culture from different parts of the world (traditions, customs, rituals, festivals, celebrations and daily life of social groups, ethnic groups, people living in the mountains and mountain regions, and their relationship with the nature of the mountains):
