Exhibition and premiere of the new book "CURSE" by Mariusz Forecki in Poznan
The book comes just months after Russia's attack on Ukraine turned into a regular war with all its cruel elements: chaotic, brutal bombing of cities, use of banned weapons, torture and killing of civilians, rape, looting and the largest refugee crisis since the end of World War II in 1945.
I have collected photographs from my many travels around the former Union of Soviet Socialist Republics - in the final stages of its existence and during the formation of the new socio-political order. I watched as the former republics, formerly part of the USSR, regained their independence. I saw the birth of new states, the struggle for identity, the return of displaced peoples and departures in search of a better life. I didn't realize at the time that I was witnessing events that turned out to be symbols of the disintegration of a state built on tyranny and unimaginable human suffering.
From the dust that arose after this collapse emerged the image of a new empire that, with the help of brutal propaganda and modern social engineering, transformed itself - under the guise of democracy - into an evil empire that threatened a world based on the ideas of humanism and the human right to freedom and happiness.
