What does the photo do?
The new main exhibition of the Museum of Photography in Krakow, prepared by the MuFo curatorial team led by Dominik Kuryłka, is the first exhibition of its kind presented in Poland; a cross-sectional presentation of both the history of photography, its present and future. The title "What Does a Photo Do?" perfectly captures the multidimensional approach to photography taken by the Museum's curatorial team. By asking the question "what does it do" - that is, "how does it work," but also, in colloquial terms, "what does it create" or "what does it make up" of a photograph, the curators reach for a range of topics related to the process of photography, the ways in which photographs are used and the cultural significance of photography. The "What Does a Photo Do?" exhibition consists of approx. 1000 musealia from the collection of the Museum of Photography in Krakow - photographic prints and albums, glass plates, negatives and photographic equipment. The variety of objects on display not only reflects the richness of the museum's collection, but above all demonstrates a broad view of photography. The new permanent exhibition looks at photography broadly, portraying it as a world-changing technology, an intimate means of recording, and at the same time a companion and tool of endless global change.
