NOVEMBER 21, 7:00 PM / GALLERY NEXT TO ZPAF, WARSAW
Jozef Czechowicz, Stanislaw Filibert Fleury and Jan Bulhak
Gallery Next to ZPAF invites you to an exhibition by Vilnius-based artist Bartosz Frątczak, who in dialogue with the masters of photography - Jozef Czechowicz, Stanislaw Filibert Fleury and Jan Bulhak - shows the contemporary face of Vilnius. The opening will take place on November 21, 2024 at 7 pm, and the exhibition will be on view until the end of December. The organizer of the exhibition is the Jan Olszewski Foundation "Helping Poles in the East" together with the Warsaw District of the ZPAF.
This coming Thursday, November 21, at 7:00 pm, Galeria Obok ZPAF in Warsaw invites all photography lovers to the opening of Bartosz Frątczak's exhibition entitled. "Vilnius. In the footsteps of Polish photographers Jozef Czechowicz, Stanislaw Filibert Fleury and Jan Bulhak". The exhibition, funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland in the competition "Polonia and Poles Abroad 2024 - Polish events and initiatives", is an opportunity to see Vilnius through the eyes of a Polish artist for whom Lithuania has become home. It includes not only photographs of Vilnius architecture, but also portraits of residents, bringing the viewer closer to the presented urban space.
The opening will be, as always, an opportunity for meetings and discussions in an artistic circle, which we warmly encourage you to attend.
ABOUT THE PROJECT
The exhibition consists of dozens of large-format photographs depicting the contemporary architecture of Vilnius. The works are complemented by portraits of the city's residents - monks, artists and Vilnius residents. The exhibition, entitled "Vilnius. In the footsteps of Polish photographers Jozef Czechowicz, Stanislaw Filibert Fleury and Jan Bulhak" is an attempt to dialogue with the tradition of photography, while showing the author's personal view of Vilnius, the city that has become his home. "The photographs I present are my personal commentary on the tradition of the masters of photography, but also my view of Vilnius. I want viewers to see both what is permanent and eternal, as well as what is ephemeral and fleeting." - says the exhibition's author.
Warsaw's Gallery Next to ZPAF has become an ideal place to exhibit Frątczak's photographs.
"Jan Bulhak, one of the masters I refer to in this exhibition, was not only an outstanding photographer associated with Vilnius, but also the founder of the Vilnius Society of Photography Lovers, which gave rise to the later Union of Polish Artists Photographers. This is what makes the Next Gallery of the ZPAF in Warsaw the ideal place for this exhibition, and I am incredibly happy that it is here that I will show my work publicly for the first time." - emphasizes Bartosz Frątczak, author of the exhibition.
The exhibition is accompanied by texts by photography historian and diplomat Dainius Junevičius and art critic Helmutas Šabasevičius. Junevičius, in his historical introduction, introduces the profiles of three masters of photography - Bulgak, Chekhovich and Fleury - and their influence on Vilnius photography. Šabasevičius, meanwhile, describes what Vilnius is like as depicted by Bartosz Frątczak.
