Roman Vondrouš - zand the behind-the-scenes world of horse racing, where I try to capture the often absurd scenes we can encounter at horse races in the Czech Republic. Whether it's elegant ladies in hats, gentlemen in jackets with cylinders, the lives of jockeys, or the concentration of spectators on the races themselves.
Roman Vondrouš was born in Pardubice, Czech Republic. He graduated from the Institute of Creative Photography at Silesian University in Opava, Czech Republic. He is currently working on his PhD at the Institute of Creative Photography in Opava. In 2013, he won in the Sports Action category at World Press Photo.
Since 2005, he has worked as a photojournalist for the Czech Press Agency, where he is responsible for daily news. He photographed events at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, as well as the 2012 and 2014 Winter Olympics in Vancouver and Sochi.
The main part of his work is photographing horse races; both on the track and behind the scenes. He also works on his own projects in his spare time. In addition, he has worked on many other more extensive or shorter photographic documentary and reportage series.
