Description

In this 2009 issue, we begin with a text about Tracy Emin, a representative of Britart, an art icon of the 1990s. That's when critics began to pay attention to the private lives of artists, and they began to exploit such topics even more. Then we move on to Sophie Zénon's stirring photographs of mummies she took in the catacombs of the Capuchin monastery of Palermo. Has she succeeded in this way of taming death, breathing life into mummies? The post-Soviet space is presented by Austrian archaeologist and photographer Christoph Grill. Zofi Kulik probably doesn't need to be introduced, and in our pages we show her intricately unwoven but exposed "Desen". Grzegorz Klatka, in a series of portraits, captured drivers and passengers standing in traffic. Fast times, cars, fast driving and such an unreal stop, in which there are emotions, tenderness, emptiness, loneliness, as well as hunger. Marian Drew's "Still Life" is a series of photographs of the lifeless bodies of wild Australian animals shown in the same way as typical Dutch painting. Where is the photographic truth to be found here? Krzysztof Pijarski's "Dlubak - Sources" series shows a peculiar play of meanings. In "Portfolio of young" Agnieszka Podgórska and her games with the body and its imaging, a dialogue between the erotic and the non-erotic. We talk with Jozef Robakowski about his studio at the Lodz Film School. We report on the 53rd Venice Biennale, Transphotographiques Lille 2009, Month of Photography in Krakow and Fotofestiwal in Lodz, and the 6th Biennale of Photography in Poznan. Mat Maria Bieczynski writes about copyright law in relation to photography and also about the criterion of originality. Finally, we introduce the silhouette of the Warsaw Uprising photojournalist Eugeniusz Lokajski + translations of selected articles into English
