Description
We begin this 2011 issue with an artistic game, a game animated by Renhui Zhao and his Institute of Critical Zoology. In the series "Truth Study Corner" by Michal Grochowiak, the author does not seek the truth, but shows what is collateral, seemingly vacation photos, and yet hidden in some frames is some kind of painterliness... Simon Norfolk sees in the equipment and facilities of space centers "sublime militaria", that is, objects for killing. Another photographer is Marten Lange from Sweden, whose ascetic night shots show a slightly different dimension of reality. Aneta Grzeszykowska and Jan Smaga, on the other hand, in a conversation with Anna Czaban answer questions such as why they "cut" their bodies and surroundings to pieces. Daria Kolacka presents the work of a lesser-known representative of the so-called Boston school of photography - Mark Morrisroe, who, dying at the age of 30 in 1989, left behind a large archive of his work. In 2010, the Swiss photography museum Musee de l'Elysee showed the project/exhibition "reGeneration2" . From 700 portfolios submitted, the curators selected 80 people, including three Poles: Agata Madejska, Sylwia Kowalczyk and Anna Orlowska, whose works and interviews we present in our pages. We also show photos from the collective Wroclaw exhibition "Some think we are ugly" and the Podkarpackie project "Changing roles." In the "Portoflio of the young", Ania Cywinska, who faced the ice illusion of Andersen's Snow Queen in her collages. On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the photo festival in Lodz, we talk to Krzysztof Candrowicz and Marta Szymanska, the artistic heads of the event at the time. Marianna Michalowska reports on the "Alias - photography as literature" exhibition, which took place during Photomonth in Krakow, and Agnieszka Gniotek talks about the Szczecin Inspirations. We devoted a lot of space to Paris Photo of 2010, where quite a few Polish galleries took part. There is also information about the American fair organized by AIPAD and the exhibition "The Independent" held as part of the Armory Week contemporary art festival. As part of a series on Polish illustrated magazines that have contributed to the development of Polish photography, we mention "etc.", while Slawomir Tobis leans on coda chroma, the legendary light-sensitive material that revolutionized color photography.
