Description
We begin this issue with "Melody of Two Songs" by Magnum reporter Mark Power. This series shows the everyday, heterogeneous Poland in a photogenic way. Next, Tom Kencis describes contemporary Latvian photography ad 2010.
Well, and after that we start the theme of the issue, which is "Death". A difficult topic, but also a catchy one, old, but still alive, though see and read for yourself how we approached it. In the article "The Eyewitness of Death" Katarzyna Majak, using examples of many photographic projects, tries to answer the question of what is the difference between a body and a corpse, what does death look like, its photographic conterfects, among other things. Then we talk to a forensic technician, about his duties, whose task is often to photograph a corpse. Marta Sobolewska, meanwhile, asks Andrzej Kramarz about his "Piece of Land" series, a series in which the author photographed places where crimes were committed, executions were carried out, or someone lost someone. Often these are ordinary places, no different from those we pass every day, but we don't know what happened there... From the extensive series "Rites of passage" by Przemyslaw Pokrycki, we show the part with funerals. Esteban Pastorino Diaz presents cemetery buildings designed by Francisco Salomone in the Argentine province of Buenos Aires, and Maurycy Gomulicki we have the series "Funebre", in which he reveals various curiosities, often cemetery details, found in different parts of the world. We talk to Alexander Binder about his fairy tales for adults and the lenses he creates himself. There are also coffin-like portraits by Georga Krawiec and Magda Hueckel from the "Transgression" series. Zbigniew Tomaszczuk has for us some reflections on the "death of traditional photography" and the photographs of Andrzej Rozycki. In "Portofolio of the Young" we present "Photos from the funeral of Lukasz Rusznica. We have written reports from the Month of Photography in Bratislava, the 7th Photo Festival in Kaunas, Photokina 2010 and the 5th edition of the Transfotografia Festival in Gdansk. And finally, Tomasz Ferenc presents the entanglement of photography in death....
