Description

We start with photography events in Plovdiv, Berlin, Bratislava, Tokyo, Niigata. Playing with the body, portraiture, family, reconstruction of paintings, calving, masks, disguises - all this and more in the photos of cover heroine Diana Ducruet. Photoderms, on the other hand, are tinted photographs showing close-ups of parts of Irena Nawrot's body. There is also a feminine overtone and persona in the project Lady boss/ South of Russia by Elena Suhoveva and Viktor Hmiel, in which they show women in power. Joanna Zastróżna's Density also features a woman, but there is also a man, as opposite sexes. This series is neither dreamy horror, X-ray, nor art pornography. The next series shown in the pages of the quarterly, Roomsaints, in which Anna Fabricius photographed women in their homes, in the pose of the Virgin Mary, is also contradictory. In this series, the author asks herself about many sacred questions, such as what is the minimum that makes us immediately associate that it is the Virgin Mary. Then, with triptychs from archival photographs, Karolina Miller makes Farewell to the S. Magdalena Wróblewska writes about one of the most important exhibitions of the New Documentarians, and Ireneusz Zjeżdżałka sees a dialogue between Polish photographers and Sudek. Albert Zawada's My Darling Something is a series of photographs of homeless people holding in their hands what they hold most precious. And as if in opposition to this series appear Decoy (lures) by Paul Adair, stylized still lifes, colorful, artificial objects, seemingly porcelain statuettes. And these are simply decoys, traps that draw the viewer into a game of visual ambiguity.
Vladimír Birgus writes about the Photokina Visual Gallery and the 18th International Photoscene in Cologne. Justyna Grymuza on metaphysics and truth in the aesthetics of photography and Waldemar Sliwczynski on the light of Roland Barthes + English translations of selected texts, exhibition book
