"De rerum natura" is the first fully authorial book by Bogdan Konopka - his work, in addition to the selection of photographs, is divided into 5 untitled chapters. In addition to the images already known from "Grey Paris" we find here beautiful photographs of nature - from Switzerland and France, as well as bold nudes of his wife, Jacqueline Konopka. Also attracting attention are the unusual "lasers" that Konopka photographed in various corners of the French countryside.
Bogdan Konopka (1953-2019) - one of the best known Polish photographers who achieved considerable artistic success abroad. He came from the Wroclaw environment, where in the 1980s he co-founded the elementary photography movement, whose organizer and ideologue was Jerzy Olek. After emigrating to France in 1989, initially with his wife Jacqueline Konopka, who was also his impresario, they settled in Angers, and from 1994 they already lived in Paris. In 1998 Bogdan Konopka won the prestigious European Photography Contest in Vevey, Switzerland, had exhibitions in many important places on our continent, and his works were purchased by the Pompidou Center in Paris, among others. While living in the French capital, he nurtured contacts in the country of his birth, so he was often in Poland, wrote for "Kwartalnik Fotografia" and "Format" and other Polish magazines, participated in open-air photographic events, and even taught photography at Polish art schools. He represented France at an African photo festival in Bamako, Mali, for example, and in China, on behalf of the French government, he photographed the phases of the Beijing Opera House. He was the last professional photographer to photograph the interior of Notre Dame before the fire, commissioned by the Paris conservationist.
