In the age of artificial intelligence, a flood of information and an oversaturation of images, is it worth documenting? Why and how to do it in order to gain, at least for a while, the gift of the most precious thing - the attention of the audience. Is the camera and more broadly photography or visual arts a good tool for storytelling?
An extremely difficult time is behind us and, unfortunately, ahead. Pandemics, wars, political tensions, pervasive populism and a growing climate crisis. This is, on the one hand, uncertainty, anxiety and fear, but on the other hand, a time to reflect, react and try to write down - to understand and share our story with others. However, we will discover the importance of our work after time. The documentary does not bring express results and immediate changes. This is its affliction and at the same time a great advantage - after time we see more and thus understand better.
The workshops organized by the Pix.house Foundation have been held continuously for nine years. More than a hundred wonderful, sensitive people shared their documentary stories with us. Technique, equipment and spectacular efficiency were not important. We tried to look carefully, feel, learn and open our eyes, only then to see and with the help of the camera record.
This year's stories of workshop participants are unique. Once again, we focus around the slogan fyrtel - that is, our immediate space. Interpretations of this (it might seem a simple topic) are surprising and evolving. In the publication we find personal stories, that is, a record of the closest environment, one's own experiences and the use of photography as a tool to cope with an increasingly difficult reality. We also have universal stories that have the potential to reach a wide audience. What is important in all of this is an unfettered message, pluralism of view and sensitivity of perception. This is what we are stubbornly maniacally sticking to and will stick to.

I'll be back tomorrow / I'll be back tomorrow | Magda Benda
Winner of the 2023 Talent of the Year competition in the ZinCall category
I returned home after several years of absence. I started meeting and observing the girls I grew up with and raised as a child. When I started the project in 2019, Racibórz was a city in the Silesian agglomeration that was leading the way in the infamous statistics - many 18-26 year olds were moving out to larger cities or abroad to continue their education and find work.
I'll be back tomorrow is the story of my childhood friends who, against most, decided to stay and build their lives in our hometown. A city that almost every young person decides to leave right after high school.
The project is a nostalgic story about a special time just after coming of age. This is the time when young adults begin new social roles, becoming parents and full-time employees. These new roles define their daily lives and shape their new self.
I cared about the female perspective. I look at young Polish women who become mothers. Their romantic relationships or lack thereof. I pay attention to what changes take place in the bodies of young women. For example, I'm concerned with their self-expression, including visual changes in appearance such as tattoos, plastic surgery or piercings.
My heroines I accompanied in their "most important" moments such as childbirth. I was also with them during classic Polish ceremonies such as baptism, weddings and birthdays. However, I don't want to exaggerate the importance of these events - I give the same importance to the daily routine. With my presence I become a part of their everyday life. I am an invited guest - not just an observer.
Basically, I want to show that there is no single point of view, and the idea of happiness depends only on individual needs. This is a story about people I value - regardless of life choices.
