The Cultural Center "Scene is Strange" invites you to a unique exhibition. On September 12, photographer Marek Lapis will present the project "OdNowa", an author's look at the experience of the pandemic period.

Mark Lapis' latest exhibition is a reflection on the direct impact of SARS-CoV-2 on people. "Renewal" depicts intimate moments of people from different walks of life to show the changes brought about by the pandemic and the gestures of aid and solidarity that restore faith in humanity.

- After a few months of life slowing down, we longed for the pre-pandemic state, which seemed to us a "lost good." We longed for the most important things: direct contact with loved ones (and others), a handshake or looking into the eyes of another person with love - all the things you can't buy, but which indicate the quality of life. Lockdown made us realize that social ties are essential, the author says.

The intermedia project uses a cross-section of photographic techniques (analog and digital), expressing through words and images what has changed in our perception of the world through lockdown.

The opening of the exhibition will take place on September 12 at 7 pm at the CK eSTeDe gallery. The photographs will be on display until September 29. The project was realized within the framework of a grant from the Minister of Culture and National Heritage.

"OdNowa" is one of Mark Lapis' many projects. The author has been involved in social, documentary and reportage photography for many years. He is a graduate of Photography at the Multimedia Communication Department of the Magdalena Abakanowicz University of Arts in Poznan and a member of the Union of Polish Artists Photographers. His photographic projects to date have resulted in numerous awards, including International Photography Awards Los Angeles, PX3 Paris, Tokyo International Foto Awards, Grand Press Photo, Black & White Spider Awards Los Angeles, Leica Street Photo, BZ WBK PRESS FOTO, Moscow International Foto Awards, Polish Sports Photography Contest, and National Geographic Poland. He has published his work in most newspapers and magazines in Poland such as. Polityka, National Geographic Polska, Newsweek Polska, Przekrój, Tygodnik Powszechny, Viva, Forbes, Playboy, Gazeta Wyborcza, Rzeczpospolita.

Exhibition realized within the framework of the 2022 creative grant from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.

The SAR-CoV-2 pandemic is responsible for more than 3 million deaths worldwide. Its effects are long-term, it's hard to know exactly what period we will face. No one fully knows or can predict it.

I myself was hit hard when I encountered coronavirus. Unfortunately, my condition so critical that I had to be transported by covidova ambulance to an infectious disease hospital. Spent there 3 weeks very much etched in my consciousness, it is very difficult to forget what I experienced there. Difficult moments on the knife edge were several, I'm glad I found my way back. The whole body suffered a lot, including the bodily and spiritual spheres. It took a long time to get back to a fairly normal, previous life. It was a time for deep reflection on what is most precious in life.

It was hard to predict from the beginning what the post-pandemic landscape of the globe would be, whether we would recover quickly. The most important thing was the reflexes of positive behavior. Help, solidarity, a desire for relief for those most affected and heartbroken. Many did not know how to behave, how to deal with this sudden situation. After a few months of slowdown, we longed for the times before the pandemic, it seemed to us a "lost good". We missed the most important things: direct contact with loved ones or other people, a direct handshake or looking into the eyes of another person with love. For the things that can't be bought, the things that testify to the quality of life. Lockdown, made it clear how we are a society in need of social ties.
Intermedia exhibition using photographic techniques of noble analog and digital techniques - the project "Renewal" presents reflections related to the encounter of people from a wide spectrum of society with SAR-CoV-2. What has changed in their "Inner Landscape"?, in their lives , in their perception of the world, what ended?, and what began? Using the medium of image and words, I reach these intimate spaces of experience to release them. Marek Lapis.

I photograph niche environments, alienated from society in general. In photography I am primarily interested in people and their emotions. By photographing others, I get to know myself more and more. The camera over time has become an extension of my eye and hand, I am one with it.
