"Flores" by Szymon Kobusinski in Sopot.
The opening at the State Art Gallery in Sopot will take place on Friday, 01.09.2023 at 7 pm, and the exhibition will run until 17.09.
Szymon Kobusinski's Flores project is a visual meditation and reflection on the nature of memory. At the same time, the work itself, as well as the process of its creation, is the artist's way of coping with the grief of lost moments, which, in due time unappreciated, have passed and faded into the chaos of memories.
He superimposed on them the noise of passing time, transforming and giving them perhaps a different form. Flowers, as an object of artistic observation, became the symbolic matter of this subject. They come from all sorts of events in which the artist participated or witnessed - family celebrations, funerals, official events. However, in the photographs themselves, their relationship to specific events is not important.
They are a tool, like the element of water, which has been a characteristic of Kobusinski's work for many years. In this case, he has treated its use metaphorically, as a prism of time, but also literally as a means to create images spontaneously and without total control. This photographic tactic in its intent is to trigger retrospection, to intensify impressions. With his essentialist aesthetic, the artist resurrects and archives his own emotions, but at the same time gives them a universal character.
