The exhibition "Ciemno w dzień Ciemno w nocy" is another chapter constituting a consideration of the concept of freedom in Polish society. In the midst of an election campaign, Michal Adamski looks at the relationship between voters and politicians, who like superheroes stand at the head of their tribes to lead them to victory: seduce, persuade, frighten, manipulate. Will we believe the show they provide us, of which we are a part? Or do we have to believe them?
Freedom and security are two extremely important aspects of human life, the balance of which is crucial for a stable society. Professor Zygmunt Bauman claimed that freedom without security is chaos, and security without freedom is slavery. With the departure from the totalitarian system, we are faced with a fundamental question: what does freedom really mean to us? Different concepts of freedom, such as personal freedom, the ability to choose, the practice of religion, individual rights and the rights of minorities are key elements in our discussion. Nevertheless, differences and conflicts in understanding freedom, its scope and limitations, become the source of the Polish-Polish war that has been going on for years. For more than a decade, this conflict, supported by various factors, has been growing. Rulers, the church, economic crises, climate change, pandemics, social media and the war in Ukraine all contribute to exacerbating social and political tensions in Poland.
The zine "Ciemno w dzień, ciemno w nocy" is an authorial reflection and refers to the current socio-political situation in Poland. It is an attempt to express a personal commentary on the complicated reality that causes great division in society and is a source of constant anxiety for us.
