Melancholy of light in the photographs of Jakub Pierzchała

Philip-Lorca diCorcia took a photograph in 1978 showing his brother Mario. The figure depicted in the photograph looks into an open refrigerator, illuminating the interior of the kitchen and the face of the portrayed with unnatural light. Undertaking an analysis of this work, Peter Galassi drew attention to the apparent ordinariness of the situation, occurring as a result of photographic direction.
