Collodions on the go
We invite you to the opening of a photography exhibition entitled "Rafał Biernicki - collodions on the go" presenting works created using the wet plate collodion technique. The author returns to the historical sources of photography, capturing images with a wooden bellows camera, making the photographic emulsion himself and coating metal plates with it in the manner of the 19th century inventors of this method. The presented ferrotypes shine in the contrasting light of the gallery, transporting us to the experience of the alchemists of photography, presenting the world as the inventors of this method saw it more than 150 years ago. Biernicki has mastered his manual skills in a masterful manner, so that his photographs taken in a 50 x 30 cm panoramic format impress not only with their beautiful composition but with their depth and technical perfection of mastery of the method. The exhibition will feature landscapes taken during his travels in Europe, namely Portugal, France, Spain and Scotland. The photographer traveled in search of interesting offbeat places in the wilderness and outskirts of major cities, moving around in an old van, so converted that it could be used as a photographic darkroom.
On May 7 he will visit Radom in his darkroom car. During the opening of the exhibition there will be a demonstration during which the artist will prepare collodion emulsion, coat a plate with it and make a group photograph for the assembled guests.
Location: Radom Village Museum, chicken coop from Konar
Curator: Sebastian Klochowicz
