This is the first summer of the Museum of Photography at Rakowicka Street! We want to take this opportunity to get to know you from the best side - all neighbors (closer and further!) are invited to our neighborhood day. We have planned attractions for you for the whole day - there will be an opportunity to get to know the neighborhood better during a photo walk, take photos, take part in workshops (an offer for the youngest!) and see our exhibitions. We hope that during the joint picnic we will be able to talk about what kind of neighbor the Museum of Photography in Krakow could be, what you miss most in the neighborhood, We will be waiting for you at MuFo Rakowicka and in front of the museum building.

Photo walk. Rakowicka, skeletor, officer housing estate
The walk will begin under the buildings of the former armory of the Krakow Fortress, where the Museum of Photography - MuFo Rakowicka - is now headquartered. The complex of artillery warehouses of the former Austrian Armory of the Krakow Fortress was built in 1882-1892 and was part of a larger barracks and workshops establishment. We will have the opportunity to see the effects of the revitalization of this historic establishment. Then we will move to the building of the University of Economics - one of the five Polish state universities of economics. The university was established on May 28, 1925 as a state-run Higher School of Economics. In 1937 it was transformed into the Academy of Commerce, thus receiving the rights of an academic school. Then we will discuss the area around the Mogilskie Roundabout, along with the changing architectural landscape, examples of which are the former "Szkieletor" building (now Unity Tower) and the Krakow Opera House building. We will end the walk with a visit to the Officers' Housing Estate with its characteristic Divine Mercy Church with unusual architecture. The estate was built in the interwar period on building plots laid out on a resold part of the Potocki family's landed estate. It was a suburban settlement at the time. The name of the estate comes from the officers who settled there. This is because in the vicinity of the Mogilskie Roundabout there was Fort "Lubicz" and military barracks, used by the Polish army after WWI.

A guided tour of the exhibition "See: Britain" with a guide
How to encapsulate 60 years of British history in two hundred photos? Skinheads and shopaholics, melancholy seaside resorts and big-city yuppies at the top of their game, separatists in Northern Ireland, miners from Thatcher's closing mines and newcomers from different parts of the former empire. The exhibition "See: Britain. British documentary photography since the 1960s" allows viewers to immerse themselves in the melting pot of island culture, to which new ingredients and spices have been added by more and more people in the post-war period. The exhibition features both works by classics of British photography, such as David Hurn, John Bulmer, Martin Parr, John Davies and Anna Fox, and newly discovered masters.

The great adventure of the MuFka soul | Workshop for children
Meet me: I am the MuFek soul and I will be your guide to the Museum of Photography. I will show you how to go back to the past and how to bring back the future! Sounds great, doesn't it? In old photographs we find objects that we no longer use, we see outfits and hairstyles that have long gone out of fashion... Since the invention of photography, the methods of taking photographs and the equipment used by photographers have changed many times. Traveling with me through the exhibition, you will feel for yourself at what pace the world is changing.
You ask, what do I, a ghost, have to do with photos? Like them, I don't like light and constantly hide in the darkest corners of the exhibition. Besides, every decent museum should have a ghost.... Conduct: Julia Jewszel - MuFo guide and educator, volunteer and activist associated with Krakow NGOs dealing with multiculturalism. She is a student at Jagiellonian University majoring in Culture and Media Management. Academically she deals with accessibility in cultural institutions. She is passionate about reportage photography.

I see myself | Photography workshops for the youngest children
Have you always been curious about what's in the grass? Is it possible to look into the eyes of an ant? How best to count all the dots on a ladybug's dress? Or maybe instead of looking at each of the inhabitants of the meadow you would like to take a picture of the entire landscape? During our classes we will dispel all doubts about macro and landscape photography. We will also discover the beauty of the nature around us and learn why it is always good to look under your feet.
Conducting: Aleksandra Lesiak - comparatist and museum educator, her favorite pastime is looking at details and macro photography. As a child, she was most fond of reading for hours and letting go of boats made of nuts.

A guided tour of the main exhibition "What Does a Photo Do?"
More than 1,000 objects, including nearly 300 cameras - this thicket is worth seeing with a guide. Asking "What does a photo do?" - that is, "how does it work," but also, in colloquial terms, "what does it create" or "what does it consist of" in a photograph, the curators of the main exhibition of the Museum of Photography in Cracow reach for a number of topics related to the process of photography and the ways in which photographs are used. "What Makes a Photo?", while not claiming the title of an exhibition devoted to the history of photography, invites viewers to trace its origins, provides insight into the technology of recording on film, glass plate or computer disk, and evokes profiles of female photographers.
During the guided tour, together we will look at the different roles of photography: family heirloom, trigger for common fooling around, ethnographic tool, tool of propaganda. "What does a photo do?" will allow you to find out what successive cameras looked like, what chemicals were used to develop photos, but also - what subjects were most often photographed or for what purposes photography was used.

Photo Walk | Around the Modrzej闚 Estate
During the walk we will visit the Settlement of the Society of Cheap Housing for Catholic Workers, popularly known as "Modrzejowka". The estate owes its name to the actress, Helena Modrzejewska - it was built on the grounds of her estate. The historic villa of the star of Polish stages is a brick structure with wooden elements, with the original porch preserved on the side of Grottgera Street. The decision to build additional buildings was made in 1898, the investor was the Society of Cheap Housing for Catholic Workers in Krakow, founded in the same year by Dr. Henryk Jordan. During the walk we will also visit the professors' housing estate, built in the interwar period in the New Village area. In 1920-27, in the vicinity of Axentowicz Square, the erection of the professors' housing estate continued - construction of the first villas began even before 1914. The author of most of the residential buildings completed at that time, some built in the then fashionable form of a manor house, was Waclaw Krzyzanowski. We will also visit the modernist St. Stephen's Church at 19 Henryka Sienkiewicza St., in Cracow, it was built between 1933-1938 according to the design of architect Zdzislaw Maczenski. Conducted by: Dr. Michal Wisniewski - Art historian and architect, interested in the relationship between modernist architecture and politics in the context of Central Europe. Lecturer at the Cracow University of Economics and employee of the International Cultural Center in Cracow. Fulbright scholar. Author of many studies and articles, as well as two monographs of leading Polish architects of the interwar period: Ludwik Wojtyczka (2003) and Adolf Szyszko-Bohusz (2013). Chief curator of the exhibition "Reaction to Modernism. Architecture of Adolf Szyszko-Bohusz" (National Museum in Krakow, 2013/2014) and co-author of the exhibitions: "Za-mieszkanie 2012. City of Gardens, City of Fences" (National Museum in Krakow, 2012/2013), "Impossible Objects" (Polish Pavilion at the 14th International Architecture Exhibition in Venice, 2014), "Monument. Architecture. Adolf Szyszko-Bohusz" (Zachęta - National Gallery of Art, 2014). Member of the board of directors of the Institute of Architecture foundation.

Open Day at MuFo Josephites - we are already 35 years old!
Events for children and adults, promoting the activities of the department, guided tours and specialized workshops. The Museum of Photography in Krakow was established on December 31, 1986! A birthday on New Year's Eve obliges: we plan to celebrate this year's anniversary throughout the year, so we invite you to another MuFo open day!
Although the building at 16 Józefitow Street has not been the seat of the museum from the beginning (it was first located on Starowislna Street, and later on Market Square, in the Hetmanska Tenement House) it is today the longest-operating branch of the MuFo. The historic villa has served us since 1992 - we recently completed its modernization, expansion and adaptation, which allowed us to create a modern museum facility in MuFo Józefitow.
Here you can see with your own eyes what hides behind doors that are usually closed to visitors, learn how we decide which works will be included in the Museum's collection, and how we take care of delicate photographs from over a hundred years ago! A visit with us is also a unique opportunity to learn some of the museum's "know-how" on storing and organizing photographs, which will come in handy for anyone who has some photos at home and would like to give them the longest possible life.
On July 24, we have prepared for you a rich program of guided tours (every hour!) and attractions (workshops for children!), and on top of that, admission - including workshops - costs only one zloty! See you at MuFo Josephites!

Cyanotype workshop for adults
How to capture an image without using a camera? One of the answers to this question is cyanotypes - a noble printing technique that uses the reaction of iron salts to produce negatives of a distinctive blue color. During the workshop, participants will learn the remarkable history of this shade of blue, and create works of art to take home with them. Conduct: Eliza Kubiak - A graduate of philosophy at the University of Warsaw and photography at the UP Faculty of Art and Design. She is passionate about the phenomenon of photosensitivity and experiments with the use of noble photographic techniques. He has been working with cyanotypes for 5 years. She divides her free time between photography, literature and Japanese calligraphy. Her favorite color is Prussian blue.

Spatial relations I - framing - meeting with Kinga Nowak
What does sculpture have in common with photography? How to translate three dimensions into two? The series of meetings "Spatial Relationships" is not a course in photography, but rather an exercise in perception and reproduction of reality. The starting point for joint experiments will be Kinga Nowak's sculptures entitled "Anamorphoses," which have been part of the MuFo Sculpture Garden since November 2019. During the artist-led classes, we will open ourselves to new forms of experiencing and remembering space, experiment with proportions and framing. According to the author, Kinga Nowak - The sculptures in the MuFo garden encourage you to walk around and see them from many sides. The changing colors of the forms may surprise you. The starting point for their reception is the eye of the viewer, where he looks from, or how the light falls at a given moment. There are various relationships between these objects and the surrounding nature and architecture. These relations concern the scale of the sculptures, their reference to the surrounding space, but also their relationship to each other. Sometimes their abstract, geometric shapes alter our vision and detach us from reality. A flat photograph is a record of what we feel and observe not only with the tool of sight. When a photograph is created, we first perceive what we photograph with many senses. I wanted to reflect on this issue together with the participants during the workshop.
One of the most important decisions a photographer or photographer makes is the choice of a frame, enclosing unlimited reality into a flat image. The frame is generally rectangular, but it doesn't have to be that way at all! During the workshop we will create our own frames through which we will view the garden space. I wonder what kind of frames we will capture and what they will change in our perception?
Leading: Kinga Nowak - Painter and sculptor. She graduated from the Faculty of Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow. She also studied at École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris.
In 2007-2008 she was a guest lecturer at the University of the Arts, London College of Communication in London. She is affiliated with the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow, and has been a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts since 2017. One of the themes of particular interest to the artist is the exploration of the heritage of the avant-garde, as well as experiments with space transposing flat painting forms into the third dimension.

Curatorial tour of the permanent exhibition "Portrait"
Join us for a guided tour of the permanent exhibition presented at MuFo Strzelnica. The tour will be led by one of the curators of the exhibition - Marta Miskowiec. The aim of the exhibition is to signal the multifaceted nature of the phenomenon of photographic portraiture, showing its evolution subject to both technological limitations and possibilities, as well as cultural and social changes taking place in the world.
Moderated by Marta Miskowiec - Cultural anthropologist, exhibition curator, author of texts on photography. She works at the Museum of Photography, where she focuses on social photography. She is curator of MuFo Rifle House.
