The starting point for conducting creative photographic workshops will be Jerzy Lewczynski's definition of the archeology of photography. During the workshop, participants will engage in a reinterpretation of the concept created by the artist, including using collage techniques, sequences and self-analysis of museum and family archives. The workshop is aimed at adults.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The workshop will be led by Kamil Myszkowski - PhD in cultural studies.
Assistant professor in the Department of Mechanical Documentation of the Silesian Museum in Katowice. Curator of photographic exhibitions, animator of cultural life, educator. Scholarship holder of the Mayor of the City of Sosnowiec in the field of culture in 2020. Actual member of the Union of Polish Artists Photographers and the Polish Society for Film and Media Studies. Artist expressing himself through photography, author of individual exhibitions, participant in collective exhibitions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the birth of photographer Jerzy Lewczynski, which falls this year, we have prepared a new showcase presentation entitled: ARCHEOLOGY OF PHOTOGRAPHY, in which you can admire the work \"Horoscope\" from 1960 by this outstanding artist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jerzy Lewczynski was born one hundred years ago, on March 14, 1924 in Tomaszow Lubelski. He was an artist photographer, creator of the concept of archeology of photography.
The later artist took his first photographs before World War II with a Kodak Baby Brownie camera. World War II left a strong mark on Lewczynski's psyche, the influence of the traumatic events spend in his later works. In 1943-1945 Jerzy was a soldier in the Home Army. In July 1944, he joined the People's Polish Army, from which he deserted, taking refuge in Silesia. He eventually settled in Gliwice, where he took up studies at the Faculty of Engineering and Construction of the Silesian University of Technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His adult life was inextricably linked with the city where he settled - there he lived, worked, but also created and promoted photography. His international artistic career also began there. In Gliwice he also became involved with a branch of the Polish Photographic Society - later the Gliwice Photographic Society. In 1958 he was admitted to the Union of Polish Artists Photographers, where he held many important positions. Lewczynski befriended and collaborated with other outstanding artists - such as Zdzislaw Beksinski, Piotr Janik, Tadeusz Maciejko, Zofia Rydet and Bronislaw Schlabs. As an artist he grew to become one of the most important figures in Polish photography of the second half of the 20th century. He took part in most of the most important presentations in post-war Poland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lewczynski died in Gliwice on July 2, 2014. The artist subordinated his entire life to memory work, every photograph was important to him, even those found on the street. We also remember him and take care of his works in our collections on a daily basis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
